Moonman revient avec une nouvelle collection surprise de onze titres, intitulée « Letters to the dearest ».
Si la plupart de ces morceaux sont basés sur de l’auto-sampling de guitare acoustique et électrique en temps réel transformé comme par magie en indie-folk en polyphonie , on retrouve également « Underground design », outtake de « Manipulators », ou encore « Very old letters with cigarette burns » avec un texte de Dana Hilliot.
La conjonction de parties vocales devient la marque de fabrique d’un songwriting original et ambigu (« Write on invisible shores », « Ocean »), tout comme la superposition de motifs de guitare parfois lancinants et fragiles (« I could have been your dad », « Toast ») dans un registre proche de Smog, parfois sautillants et optimistes, tranchant ainsi paradoxalement avec le ton souvent sombre des monologues / dialogues, élaborés sur le vif en automatic writing,
On retrouve également un penchant pour l’expérimentation déjà exploré dans la trilogie des « Pièces pour guitare préparée » avec des passages instrumentaux improvisés tissant un lien subtil entre la dissonance et la mélodie (« The rigid stars were wrong »).
